Night Sky

We are wilderness wandering, world traveling, diversity celebrating, The Office binging, Disney loving, game playing, happy family who’s doing their best to enjoy each moment of life. We are hoping to adopt again!

AT A GLANCE

  • We met at a Halloween party while we were at USU. We love Halloween as a family (The boys are obsessed with "Nightmare Before Christmas", we do matching costumes, go all out in decorations, and squeeze in as many Halloween themed parties as we can) so it was a very fitting way to meet!

  • We were married in 2014 on a freezing (but beautiful!) November day.

  • We have two amazing little boys. Oliver (born August 2017) has the hugest heart. He is the sweetest big brother, always helping to feed and "laugh" Simon. He loves duplos/legos, inflatables and animals.  He is wild about Star Wars - his favorite characters are the “stoom troopers” (as he calls them). Simon (born March 2020) is our happy boy! He has a smile and a laugh to share with everyone. He brings such a calm and easygoing demeanor to our family. He loves playing with cars and balls. We are so lucky to be these cute boys’ parents.

  • Simon was adopted and we share a loving open adoption with his birth mother and her family.

  • We do our best to raise our children with peaceful parenting methods. We always want them to feel safe and secure. And to know we love them unconditionally.

  • We are Christians (Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints/Mormons). We go to church and teach our children about Christ’s love and how we can share that love with others.

  • As a family we celebrate diversity! We love meeting new people, attending cultural events, and learning about cultures differnt than our own.

  • We love game nights with our friends and family, exploring the mountains, enjoying a high quality movie (epic dramas or suspense are Scott's favorite, cute coming-of-age are Britt's), playing on the floor with our kiddos, and traveling to places as far as Ecuador and Italia and as close as Bear Lake and Goblin Valley.

  • We are hoping to adopt again! In our hearts we know these boys are meant to have a baby sibling. We love them and their birth family already!

MEET BRITTANY

As told by Scott

I'd say the most defining characteristics of Brittany is her incredibly soft and passionate heart, both for people and nature. You’d be hard pressed to find someone more excited to do a trip to the Hogle Zoo or Loveland Aquarium. And her love of all things in nature definitely infuses our home too, most obviously through 24 -and counting- potted plants (they all have names, Aza is her current favorite). She is one who cares deeply about people who are disadvantaged in the world and social issues are always on her mind, you know she's going to have a genuine emotional response.

Being married to this beautiful girl makes life such a joy—she embraces the moment and makes life fun with silly dances and remarkably witty jokes. Brittany is the type of person who constantly thinks outward, she’s a self declared “extroverted introvert”. She’s the kind of introvert who goes outside of her comfort zone to go out and try to be the friendly and warm person people need to feel welcome and loved. She loves hosting themed parties (such as a murder mystery dinner or a punk rock guitar hero night). She makes the decorations and absolutely insists that everyone dress up, like it or not ;)

More than anything, I admire her relentless persistence of her best self. Whether that’s spiritually, intellectually, physically, or in her mental health, she is always pursuing growth. She recently started Taekwondo, it's been fun to see her learn a new skill and work to better herself. She will never settle for anything less than becoming an excellent person.

As a mother, Brittany is nothing short of phenomenal. I am blown away by what a killer job she does at being an all star mom. I’ve run into few people who dedicate the kind of time and effort she does into being a top notch parent. As a stay-at-home mom, Brittany is 100% present with Oli and Simon. She studied early childhood and elementary education and thoroughly applies what she learned about the impact of deliberate and peaceful parenting. Brittany strives to ensure that our children’s world is designed to facilitate not only a happy childhood, but one that fosters the healthy development of their mind and self-confidence.

Brittany enjoys wood crafts, Zumba, and writing poetry. Every morning she drinks cranberry juice straight from the jug. She hates wearing jeans and would pick wearing overalls over pretty much anything. She is consistently terrible at Bingo, which her extended family does at every party, poor girl. She loved being a student and is constantly seeking out more learning. She is endlessly fascinated with other cultures and is always eager to hear about another person’s lived experience. Oh, and she's gorgeous, so lucky me =)

And I haven’t even started on her preschool! Britt’s passion for early childhood has lead her to read every book and listen to every podcast she can find on the Montessori way of teaching children. She was finally able to start her preschool in 2021 and the place is a child’s dream come true. Our kids are so lucky to have such an amazing environment in which to learn and play.

Our family is so lucky to have Brittany, I love being married to this girl!

MEET SCOTT

As told by Brittany

Anyone who really gets to know Scott knows he is pure good to his core. Every day he asks me how he can make my day better, and he does. He frequently surprises me with thoughtful notes, fresh cut flowers, jewelry, and spontaneous dates.

He is such a tender dad. Every evening, you can find him sitting on the carpet playing with the boys typically “playing wrestle house” as Oli calls it. He is the best bedtime storyteller and he reads all the characters in different voices. His stellar storytelling abilities lead Oli to beg for more and more books each night, After bedtime stories, he sings the boys the River Lullaby from “The Prince of Egypt.” The boys (and me!) totally adore him. He's the kind of dad who is genuinely happy to change diapers because he sees it as a chance to connect one-on-one with Simon. And I am happy to let him be on diaper duty so it works out. ;) He loves taking the boys out in the yard. He helps Oli water our trees and they sled or blow bubbles or ride bikes. He loves spending outdoor quality time with his family, whether at a local park or the nearby mountains.

At USU, Scott studied Psychology and Spanish. He is passionate about mental health, and his original plan was to be a counselor.  However, he discovered love for coaching, business strategy, and sales. Scott now works as a VP at Fox Pest Control. Through Scott’s work, we have spent summers living in Arizona, Connecticut, and Kentucky. Our out of state living days are behind us, but we will always treasure the memories we made on our summer adventures.

Scott spent two years on an LDS mission in Italy, where he fell in love with the culture, language, people, and food. We love Italia in our family! Especially when Scott pulls out his recipe books the native Italians made him. :)  He speaks fluent Italian and Spanish and is always excited to get the chance to practice.

Scott is a self-declared nerd. He loves all things Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Chronicles of Narnia. His ideal weekend would be spent having a game day with his family playing strategic board games like Evolution, Risk, or Werewolf. He’d definitely bring Oreos to the game day. His favorite.

His coworkers and I tease him that he is hopelessly optimistic. When it comes to Scott, the glass is always half full, and life is so so good. He reminds me regularly, “It’s a good life, Brittany Paige.” I don’t know how we got so lucky to have him, but everyday I am thankful we did.

WHY ADOPTION

Adoption was something that has always been on our hearts. We talked about it from the beginning of our marriage. And after a traumatic pregnancy, adoption came full circle as the next path for our family. We were so blessed to be chosen by Simon’s wonderful birth mom, with whom we share a truly special open adoption.

An open relationship with her is important to us. We send pictures, text, and FaceTime regularly. She lives out of state so we don’t get to see her as much as we’d like, but we feel oh so blessed when we do. :) We have a picture of her in Simon’s room and show it to him all the time. We love her with every ounce of our hearts.

Simon’s birth mother is Hispanic. Celebrating Simon’s Mexican and Tejano heritage is so important to our family. We have an annual Dia de los Muertos party. We love supporting Mexican owned businesses for Cinco de Mayo or Mexican Independence day-- or any day really, because tacos. :)

With this adoption we would love to have another open adoption. We would love to share visits, calls, pictures and texts. Whatever you are comfortable with. We also share a relationship with his birth mom’s family. If there are other family members who are hoping to know your child as well, we love that. The more people that love and support your child, the better!

OUR LIVES

13E97F37-8802-4CD7-91D3-14B55631F40B.jpeg

We live in a quaint home in Northern Utah. We live in a new neighborhood, full of young families. Our kiddos have plenty of friends to play with and we love spending time at the local parks. It’s so fun to watch the boys swing and slide and enjoy the fresh air. We are big believers in daily walks. Along our walks we frequently find goats to feed and gaze at grazing cows.

Family time is the core of our lives. We have family dinner together every day. We love trying new recipes, especially if avocados are involved.

We also have beautiful mountain views from our home. We love the mountains. We take our boys to wander in the woods as much as we can. We love to hike on hidden trails and look for deer and squirrels. If we’re feeling brave we dip our toes in the icy streams. To us, there’s no better way to spend our days than taking our boys on little adventures to explore our beautiful earth.

As a family, we love traveling to new places and exploring the cultures of the world. We love Latin American culture and have traveled to Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador, and Belize. We have been fortunate to visit Italy, New York and Hawaii as well. We can't wait to take all of our children to explore the earth. Stretching our minds is an important value— Scott through challenging questions and social issues, Brittany through studying geography and sociology. We look forward to traveling as a family and instilling respect for all people, beliefs, ideas, and cultures.

When we’re feeling like staying home, we love to play games together or watch a Disney movie. Or work on laundry. Always laundry. :)

Letter to You

We thank you for taking the time to look at our profile. We hope you were able to get to know us a little. We try our best to live life to the fullest and to learn and grow each day.

We are passionate about having an open adoption, to the extent that you would want; this could include visits, pictures, and letters. Your child will always know about their adoption story. Your child will know their roots, and you will always be loved and respected in our home.

Our family is our greatest blessing. We love being parents! It is essential to us that Oliver, Simon and your child know we will always love them, no matter what! We want to raise children to be confident and kind; who believe in themselves and their potential. We try to take a peaceful parenting approach, so our home feels safe and secure.

When it comes to race and multiculturalism, we have done countless hours of research on race, racial issues, and transracial adoption. We will continue to learn, to make sure we can be the best parents we can be for our children.

Our hearts are with you at this time. We hope you can feel our love and appreciation for you. Now that you know about us, we would love to get to know you!
